Novus – Fundo de Capital de Risco Fechado investment in its subsidiaries is supported by the Venture Capital Program, created within the context of the Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR), from the Portuguese Republic and with the financial backing of the European Union under Next Generation EU. The Venture Capital Program is an indirect investment initiative managed by Banco Português de Fomento. It aims to promote investment in SMEs and Mid Caps, primarily in the early stages (pre-seed, seed, start-up, later stage venture – series A, B, and C, or scale-up), by subscribing to venture capital funds for investment in companies managed by financial intermediaries. The goal is to facilitate market entry and the growth/expansion of viable companies through the development of new products/services or markets, or by strengthening and professionalizing the workforce, including the management team, of the final beneficiaries.

Basílio Simões

Basilio is a serial entrepreneur with over 25 years’ experience as CEO. He was previously the founder and CEO of ISA (Intelligent Sensing Anywhere), which scaled up to 150 full time employees and reached an IPO in 2012. He was also a foundational investor of Virtual Power Solutions (2014) and Energia Simples (2015), and has served as a Board Member and Angel Investor with many organizations. Basilio holds a PhD in Technology Physics, and is an Invited Professor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Coimbra University.

James McDougall

James McDougall is an entrepreneur, angel investor, venture capitalist, advisor and mentor with a global network for building and funding high performing teams, commercializing new technologies and leading companies in their crossing of the chasm for rapid growth and value creation.

His companies have raised over $400 million of early-stage and growth funding for start-ups, SMEs and public listed companies. James brings over 30 years of experience leading companies focused on developing and commercializing disruptive lithium polymer, solid state battery, inorganic electrolyte, zinc-air flow battery, nanotech ultra-capacitors, energy storage, renewable generation, VPP and energy efficiency technologies.

Jorge Landeck

Jorge brings over 25 years’ experience in distributed industrial systems, data communications and instrumentation. He was previously founder and CTO of ISA (Intelligent Sensing Anywhere), which scaled up to 150 FTE and reached an IPO in 2012. He was a foundational investor of Virtual Power Solutions (2014) and manager of several RDI European projects. Jorge holds a PhD in Technology Physics, and has served as a Professor at Coimbra University.

Rita Carreira

Rita is a software engineer by training, who has held many roles over the past 15 years, including as a software developer, IoT protocol analyst, business analyst, IoT system architecture design, software and hardware development team leader and manager. She dedicates her efforts to the creation of distributed and reliable systems.

Andreia Carreiro

VP of Innovation

Andreia Carreiro is Cleanwatts’ VP of Innovation and Energy Policy. Andreia is an Energy and Sustainability Professional, with more than 10-year experience as Program and Project Manager, in national and international projects based upon R&D, technology and solutions applied to the sustainable development paradigms. She has held roles as Innovation and Strategy Manager, towards positioning and international competitiveness, also promoting the cooperation between public and private sectors. 

Andreia is also a former Regional Director for Energy at Azores Government, responsible for the development of the energy policy strategy and electric mobility towards the energy transition of the archipelago. She has also worked as an Energy Advisor to the deputy minister and Secretary of State for Energy, developing public policies strategies, legislation and programs in the Recovery and Resilience Plan scope. Andreia holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems (MIT Portugal), MSc in Energy for Sustainability, MSc in Biomedical Engineering (University of Coimbra) and PgD MBA (Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa).

André Oliveira

Responsible for the development of IoT solutions and the integration of digital solutions at Cleanwatts Digital, where he leads projects in development, research, and technological innovation. With over 20 years of experience in the technology sector, he has built solid expertise in software development, systems architecture, and R&D project management. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the creation of platforms and tools that drive energy transition and operational efficiency, reflecting a strong connection between technological innovation and its practical application in sustainable solutions.

With a background in Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Aveiro, André complemented his education with Microsoft certifications in Azure and Data Engineering and has participated in high-impact projects in the areas of smart grids, e-mobility, and predictive maintenance. His vision combines technical expertise, strategic management, and business alignment, ensuring that technology acts as a catalyst for innovation, efficiency, and added value for clients and partners.

Mário Pereira

Pedro Monteiro

With a solid 17-year career in the energy sector, Pedro stands out as an expert in energy efficiency, industrial automation, and complex project management. At Cleanwatts Digital, he leads the execution of projects in monitoring, energy efficiency, photovoltaic power plants, and energy storage systems (BESS). His experience includes the successful implementation of technological solutions for large companies such as Ana Aeroportos, Recer, Symington, Metro de Lisboa, and Mitsubishi-Fuso.

With a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra, Pedro combines specialized technical knowledge with proven leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams. As a certified member of OET and DGEG, he has the necessary credentials to lead electrical installation and energy system projects.

She began her career at ISA – Intelligent Sensing Anywhere, S.A., in 2007, in the Quality department, which she has always led and to which, over time, the company’s Human Resources and Legal departments have been added. Currently, at Cleanwatts Digital, she has led, alongside her teams, the development of an Integrated Quality and Information Security Management System, which has already achieved two strategic certifications – ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 – essential milestones for the company’s future. More recently, she has taken on a new strategic challenge: to drive the Sustainability project, which combines energy efficiency, social inclusion, and corporate transparency to create a positive impact and generate shared value.
