Cleanwatts Digital joins the INNO-TREC project consortium

Cleanwatts Digital is contributing to the development and implementation of a pilot project in Portugal, which will involve Renewable Energy Communities in a real-world context.

Cleanwatts Digital joins the INNO-TREC (Innovative Transactive Renewable Energy Communities) project, a European initiative that aims to develop free, web-based digital tools to support the creation, management, and operation of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) across Europe.

REC represent an innovative model that allows citizens, businesses, and local entities to produce, consume, and share 100% renewable energy. However, they often face legal, technical, and operational obstacles that hinder their implementation and growth. The INNO-TREC project aims to address these barriers through simple and accessible digital solutions that support the entire life cycle of communities, from initial planning to daily operation. The tools developed will be made available free of charge online, democratizing access to the technology needed to create and manage RECs effectively.

Cleanwatts Digital is contributing to the development and implementation of a pilot project in Portugal, which will involve Renewable Energy Communities in a real-world context. This pilot will enable the testing and validation of digital tools geared towards the management, monitoring, and optimization of communities’ energy resources.

INNO-TREC brings together around 20 academic and industrial partners and will be implemented in six European countries: Greece, Belgium, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Portugal. The project will start in January 2026 and run until June 2029, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program (Grant Agreement No. 101230578). This initiative positions Portugal at the forefront of the European energy transition, contributing to a more sustainable and decentralized future in the energy sector.
